Mr. John M. Cholin, President of J.M.Cholin Consultants, Inc., has accrued over 30 years of experience providing state of the art fire detection systems for industrial applications. For seventeen of those years he held a series of positions at the FIRETEK Corporation, rising through the ranks from Staff Engineer to President/Chief Engineer.
Under his leadership, FIRETEK developed a long list of innovative fire detection products and served during as a consultant to a wide array of customers regarding the application of diverse fire detection technologies to a wide variety of industrial occupancies. In each case, he used his intimate knowledge of the detection technologies, the physics and chemistry of both the fire and the environment to develop solutions to the most difficult fire protection problems.
John Cholin established J.M.Cholin Consultants, Inc. to apply the experience and knowledge accrued over the past 30 years to the problems of industrial clients. He is a Fellow of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers and member of the National Fire Protection Association. He is a member of and active contributor to NFPA's Technical Committees, including Standards 72, 654, 655 and 664, which he chaired for 10 years.
He has served as the chairman of the Task Group on Radiant Energy Detection for National Fire Alarm Code, NFPA 72. He continues to work on these committees.
John has presented numerous papers and conducted extensive seminars on industrial fire detection. As a seminar speaker, John is particularly known for his ability to explain complex scientific information in a clear and forthright manner. He serves as a seminar instructor for both the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the Society of Fire Protection Engineers. He has written four chapters for the NFPA Fire Protection Handbook, both the 18th, 19th and 20th editions as well as commentary in the National Fire Alarm Code Handbooks for the 1993, 1996, 1999, 2002 and 2007 editions.
